Who we are
Waseda Poverty and Public Health Research Group is a non-profit organization working to further the fields of health, social and economic development through academic research, and, most importantly, on-the-ground project implementation. Our people are comprised of undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals and experts in the field. WPPH embraces the ideals of social medicine, and social development, and as such seeks to attract individuals from a diverse spread of research fields. By bringing all of these research areas under one organization, we hope to promote the integration of various research fields into effective on the ground development and health projects.

What we do

On a basic level, WPPH serves as a research and project hub supporting individuals and group members as they pursue their specific research areas. WPPH does this through resource support, advising, referrals and liaison work while providing researchers with the freedom to develop their own research. We work to make sure that this research is made available both internally and with the general public.

WPPH also taps into this intellectual capital, and research to organize the implementation of studies and projects in the field to guarantee that the research and work that is done lead in the end to the true aim of our efforts; meeting the needs and improving the lives of the less fortunate.

Where is WPPH located

As can probably be derived from the name, Waseda Poverty and Public Health Research Group was originally founded in Tokyo, Japan by Japanese and international students at Waseda University. WPPH is not a part of, nor affiliated with Waseda University itself. However, after its original founding WPPH has expanded to include students from other universities and institutes as well as non-academic participants. Moreover, we have ceased being confined to Japan itself and are now incorporating researchers residing in all parts of the world. One need not be Japanese, nor in Japan in order to enter our organization. All that is required is common interest, a common goal, and the individual fortitude to pursue it.
